What are the most common health hazards? |
South Africa has relatively few health hazards when compared with much of Africa. Tap water is safe to drink. However, visiting the sub-tropical north eastern parts of the country, especially in summer may expose you to malaria, so suitable precautions should be taken. Furthermore, note that swimming in rivers and dams may expose you to bilharzia. The sun can be very harsh, with very high incidences of UV radiation experienced, so appropriate sun creams, clothing and eyewear should be used outdoors.
