| Steenberg Hotel & Golf Club - Cape Town |
Steenberg was registered in 1682 and was the first farm given title in South Africa. The first owner was a young German widow, Catharina Ustings, who came to Cape Town at 22 years of age and became wife to four husbands. It was this courageous lady who started the tradition of excellence which is Steenberg. All the staff at Steenberg Hotel embrace its glorious heritage and have a profound commitment to enhance its natural and historic charm. Offering unique luxury a mere 20 minutes from frenetic city life are the idyllic surrounds and absolute calm of Steenberg Hotel. An award-winning winery, an award-winning gourmet restaurant and a championship 18-hole golf course complete the picture. Many of the rooms have private patios where guests can enjoy time alone to contemplate the world and invigorate the senses.
The hotel buildings have been beautifully restored, superbly furnished. The 30 luxury en-suite rooms range from the traditional to the very modern, complemented by antiques and fine paintings from the era. The art of fine dining and excellent wines is carried to new heights in the elegant setting of the restaurant. There are two inviting swimming pools for warm sunny days and scenic walks for the
more energetic. The private and exclusive Steenberg Golf Club is available only to hotel guests and members. This golf course is a must for golfing enthusiasts visiting the southern region of the cape. The design of the central clubhouse is harmonious with the historic architecture of the estate. The cool, airy rooms are fronted with green French doors onto a terrace. The 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Peter Matkovitch and makes full use of natural features and hazards such as the vineyards, pine forest and gentle waterways. Steenberg Hotel was voted "Best Luxury Hotel in South Africa - AA Travel Awards 2005" |
