Suggested time needed for destinations
Suggested time needed for destinations

1. Cape:

To visit Cape Town and the Winelands, one would need at least 3 or 4 days, and if you also include the whale watching areas of Hermanus and Gansbaai, the Garden Route and the West Coast then at least one week to ten days (or more) is preferable.

2.  Go on Safari:

The most common length of stay at a safari camp is around 3 nights, allowing two full days on safari. It is important to decide which gaming destination or destinations to include (and which camps) that "fit" with the balance of the itinerary (e.g. Sabi Sands near Kruger Park, Madikwe, Eastern Cape near Port Elizabeth, or Botswana and Vic Falls).  Ideally, it is obviously preferable to spend more than 3 days on safari and even better if you can visit 2 or 3 different gaming destinations with at least one camp for 2/3 nights each, per destination, to enhance your overall safari experience.

3.  Kwa-Zulu Natal:

Depending on how many areas you include in Natal (as with the Cape) you can spend anywhere from 3 to 14 days in this province alone..e.g. Drakensberg Mountains (2 or 3 days), the gaming and beach areas of northern Natal (3 to 6 days), Natal Midlands (2 days), Durban (1 or 2 nights) and the "Golf Coast" (2 to 6 days)...

4.  Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe:

A minimum of 3 nights is suggested if one wants to go to the expense of just getting to/from Vic Falls from JHB, but obviously longer is preferable... 3 nights at least gives you 2 full days in the area, allowing you one full day to spend in the village to view the Falls, visit the Market, do a Bungi Jump (!) and have lunch overlooking the Gorge and Zambezi River bridge... and a second full day to perhaps go white water rafting, do a Zambezi River cruise, or visit nearby game farms.

5.  Botswana:

As with Vic Falls, it is reasonably expensive to get to/from Maun in Botswana, so it is recommended that 6 days or more (but not less than 4 nights) are allocated for Botswana.  e.g. Okavango Delta (no less than 2 nights each at 2 different Delta camps), the Moremi Game Reserve (at least 2 nights), the Makgadikgadi Pans - 30 000 km of salt pans and land of the bushman - (2 nights) and the Chobe area, (at least 2/3 nights) which is easy to access from Vic Falls...
